School Programs

Common Ground Project is excited to welcome school groups to our community farm for an immersive learning experience and connective adventure on the land.

Your students will take part in an interactive farm tour, giving them an insight into the workings of a regenerative farm, as well as hands-on workshops that target the focus of your visit. Workshops can be adapted to suit each school’s needs or curriculum requirements of the excursion.

Throughout the day we will explore themes relating to: where our food comes from, different methods of farming and how our community farm is part of a greater local food system and ecosystem. Programs are designed to suit both primary and secondary school students.

Testimonials

“I took a group of students to the common ground project as we are studying food scarcity and sustainability. We were lucky enough to have Lachy as our awesome educator. He was very knowledgeable and engaging for the kids. He ran some activities such as tasting, harvesting, and feeding the animals which the kids loved. The students and I took away a lot of knowledge and had a really good time.”

Geelong Grammar School - VCE

“Lachy was responsive to the children and very engaging. Our goals for the excursion were around giving them the opportunities to connect with the natural world and learn more about where their food comes from in a hands-on way. Common Ground delivered all this and more.”

Jan Juc Pre School

“We had the most wonderful learning experience at Common Ground Project. CGP staff were amazing, positive, knowledgeable, inclusive and compassionate. Every student was enthusiastically engaged, curious, and excited to find out how we could make rich and nutritious soil for our plants back at school. As the learners said, 'It was the best day ever, I can't wait to plant my seedling and find out what it becomes.”

Kardinia International College

“Bringing the Year 8 Geography students to Common Ground Project provided a terrific outdoors environment for some fresh air, a place for them to interact out of the classroom and to think about environmental processes and issues that matter to a healthy and flourishing community - healthy soils for nutritious food and a healthy population. It provided strategies to manage the expected increase in waste management, such as food and green waste as Geelong’s population is projected to increase significantly in the coming decades eg reducing food waste from landfill and methane gas which is contributing to polluting air quality and affecting the climate. A good half-day duration to give the students an experience was highly beneficial and enjoyable.”

Christian College Geelong

“Wangala Primary School had a fantastic time at Common Ground Project! Cassie, Issy and Fraser were fantastic educators who offered our P-6 students a range of information that linked well to our unit of Inquiry. The kids loved it. Thank you!”
